Introducing mirror decorator lady in Iran

Iranian Eminent Mirror Decorator lady is Monir Shahroudi Farmanfarmayian born in 1922 in Qazvin. She is the first artist that use the combination of mirroring, Islamic geometric shapes and painting behind the glass in the last 40 years to create her own modern artworks. Her distinguished style formed in decades 40 and 50. Her style is the result of her artistic studies in Tehran and New York and her different insights into the art and the combination of Iranian art and modernity.

Biography

She went to New York in 1945. She studied at Cornell University. Then she went to the Parsons Design School that it was a part of the University of New York and studied fashion portraiture for three years then she went to the Students assembly.

In the middle of Decade1951, she designed as fashion portraiture for magazines such as Town, country and Glamor. She worked as a business graphic designer and fashion designer for hyper markets. After 12 years absence, she returned to Iran in 1957 and she exhibited her first individual exhibition at the college of Beauty Arts in 1962 in Tehran. In the same year, she exhibited another individual exhibition at the National Iranian Oil Company in Abadan. She traveled to different parts of Iran and visited the traditional Iranian cultures and arts.

These travels also caused to Iranian eminent mirror decorator lady collect a collection of more than 60 coffee shop paintings more than thousand painting pieces behind the glasses, many of Torkaman silver jewelry, a number of doors, windows’ frames and painted wall panels.

The fourth decade of her live

At the end of the 1960s, Monir achieved to her special art style. That was combining the old techniques of painting behind the glass, mirror decorating, inlay, Islamic geometry and architectural design.

During these years, Monir created several of mirror decorations for public places, including:

Large panels for the Laleh Hotel, two large mirrors for the Niavaran Cultural Center, a bedroom panel in the Niavaran Palace, a statue for the Garden museum of carpets and some works for private homes.

Iranian eminent mirror decorator lady exhibited her unique work in the field of mirror decoration and geometric designs entitled “Emckane Bickaran” or in English “Boundless Possible” at the Guggenheim Museum of New York in year 2015. Watch the sample of these works :
