The smallest mirror in the world belongs to France.

Professor Julien Lavrate of the University of Paris and Marie Curie in Paris reported making this efficient mirror.

The easiest way to control the light transmission is through mirrors. Mirrors are usually relatively large.

Therefore, they consist of many atoms.

Whereas in previous experiments tens of millions of atoms were used to reach a specific level of reflection.

French researchers were able to make this small mirror using 2,000 cesium atoms.

The diameter of this mirror is 200 times thinner than human hair.

How was the smallest mirror made?

To make this mirror, the researchers used a nanoscale fiber optic with a diameter of 400 nm.

Nano fiber with a diameter of only 400 nm is a key element in the system. Much of the light moves outside the fiber in a short-term magnetic field.

Cold cesium atoms near the fiber are defined in chains. In this case, the chains of cesium atoms are placed at the correct level for light reflection.

Using a pair of beams, the team produces two chains of domain potential around the fiber.

Each site occupies a single atom. Because the size of this mirror is so small, the color of the light must be specifically selected.

With this tiny mirror, it was possible to hold the light beam for a short time.

In fact, some kind of optical diode is created. This mirror can store and retrieve light pulses.
