Laminated glass
Laminated glass is made of two or more layers of flat glass interconnected by a middle layer of PVB, and is part of the safety glass.
In this process, the PVB layer adheres to the glass and causes chemical and physical bonding of the glass.
Laminated glass
This middle layer maintains the glass, during breakage and also acts as an insulator against noise and reduces UV radiation by up to 99%.
History of laminated glass
The glass was discovered by accident by a French chemist, Edward Benedictas, in 1903. He was working in the laboratory when he suddenly noticed that the glass flask covered with cellulose nitrate (a kind of plastic) did not disintegrate after breaking and the fractured pieces remained together.
This French chemist was inspired by his observation and used it to make a glass.
The invention was used to make gas mask glass first in World War I, and then in 1939 Ford began applying glass to the automotive industry.
Application of these types of glass includes:
Bulletproof glass
– Anti-theft glass, safe against earthquake.
– Banks, hospitals, pools, skyscrapers.
– And it’s important for safety and security in general.
– Photovoltaic cells
– Glass floor
– Soundproof glass
– Entrance doors
– Interior decoration
– Commercial and residential buildings window.
Laminated glass generally has three features of thermal insulation, noise reduction and security.
Mechanism of production of laminated glass
The glass sheets used for the manufacture of laminated glass can include ordinary glass, secured glass, colored glass, flute glass, and so on.
Due to the very high bonding properties of the PVB, the breaking patches remain on the PVB. The PVB absorbs a great deal of impact energy and quickly disperses it to its surface.
This will keep people indoors and outdoors safe.
Sound insulation is one of the important factors in evaluating modern residential buildings.
